Are You Gellin’?

Man.  The lengths that people will go to lose weight.

Check out this article at  about a new diet pill being tested in Italy.  It’s made of gelatin, and after it’s swallowed it expands to the size of a tennis ball.  It’s meant to be used as an appetite suppressant; start feeling hungry, take 2 and drink a big glass of water.

Personally, I would rather eat something if I’m feeling hungry.

In my humble opinion, this is just another weight loss gimmick that will lead to disappointment for someone who wants to lose weight.  Like so many other things, it does not address the behavior that needs to change.  It’s designed  to appeal as a “no-effort” weight loss aid.

Beware when things like this are offered as an easy way to lose weight.  Avoid things that don’t help teach you new behaviors.  Use caution if it does nothing to help you become fitter.

Why in the world would you want to  fill your stomach with a gelatinous mass when you could fill it with fruit, veggies, meat or hundreds of things that taste good and are good for you?

I just don’t get it.

  2. Expanding Blob Diet Pill - This Is Getting Ridiculous! » Says:

[…] Brian from lose weight with me, I was really amazed at just how far people are willing to go to shed some […]

  3. Damien Says:

OMG, this is getting ridiculous! I am going to write something about it as well. I feel sorry for anyone that tries it out, may as well give your money to charity.

Hilarious. I can’ only imagine what a tennis ball sized lump of gelatin is going to do to you intestinal track. A lot of commercial cleanses have a combination of fiber, pectin and gelatin to act as an intestinal cleanse. I have a feeling there might be “anal leakage.”

I’m with S William Shaw above- a cup of broccoli has around 25 calories. I’m sure the gelatin has some sort of caloric count.

This is right up there with Coke Plus!

S William — Me, too, my friend, me, too!

Damien — It IS ridiculous, isn’t it?

GDB — I know what you mean. The thought of that mass sitting in my stomach makes me feel queasy!

Thanks to all for stopping by.

Haah, I’ve seen that one on another blog recently. That just looks… uh… kind of disgusting. (And isn’t this material found in hygienic pads?)

  7. tweetheart Says:

Someone who is going to try that is just lazy and must like blow money. It is not that hard to eat healthy and excerise.

  8. Sandy Says:

Ok…doesn’t fiber kinda sorta do the same thing?

  9. totaltransformation Says:

    Sounds nasty.

  10. loseweightwithme Says:

TWEETHEART — I think some people find it easier to throw money at it rather than exercising and eating a little better.

SANDY — Yes and no. The thing to remember is that we get health benefits from fiber. It keeps us regular, can lower the risk of heart disease and can lower the risk of some types of cancers. I am not aware of any benefits like these from gelatin.

TOTALTRANS — Yes, it DOES sound nasty, doesn’t it?

  11. Martha Says:

No, I would totally down that. Can you get them in the US yet? I try to diet and i just love food. I wish I had something like this. I’m like 135 lbs, I just want to lose a little and i already exercise and eat right so I wantt his gelatin pill thing! Do you think metamucil would work too? How about just drinking unflavored gelatine?
